Nine supervisors from across the state met with Gov. Kim Reynolds in Des Moines on Feb. 7, including Supervisor Jack Seward of Washington County, to discuss matters of concern for county governments. In their hour-long meeting, the carbon pipeline and use of Eminient Domain for private, for-profit projects was a topic of discussion, as were state limitations on cities and counties to levy taxes, and the planned Health and Human Services (HHS) redesign of the Mental Health and Disability Services (MHDS) regions and service delivery that removes any oversight by local government.
While at the Capitol, Seward also met Rep. Heather Hora, Sen. Dawn Driscoll, and Rep. Brad Sherman to share his thoughts on MHDS and HHS issues.
