Friday’s game: Mid-Prairie vs. Tipton, Class 2A playoffs

Last week: Mid-Prairie defeated Central Lee in the opening round of the playoffs, 49-7
Golden Hawk leaders: Senior running back Kayden Reinier rushed for four touchdowns in just one half against Central Lee. He ranks No. 2 in Class 2A with 17 rushing TDs. He has run for 1,190 yards, including 165 yards last week. Senior QB Vinnie Bowlin has passed for 787 yards and 6 TDs. A large group of receivers includes seniors Clarke Latchem (13 catches for 248 yards and 2 TDs) and Keegan Gingerich (10 catches for 203 yards and 2 TDs).
Talking defense: Justice Jones, a junior, leads the Hawks with 56.5 tackles and an interception. Bowling has 27 tackles and Josh Wallington has 25.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Scouting Tipton: The Tigers won their third straight game last week, 49-14 over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Mid-Prairie defeated the same team 55-0 in the regular season. The Tigers attack on the ground with a number of rushers, including senior QB Payton Elijah (961 rushing yards, 13 TDs) and sophomore RB Levi Daniel (567 yards, 7 TDs).
History lesson: The Golden Hawks have won the last three meetings, including 21-14 in 2013.

Last week: Lone Tree defeated Winfield-Mt. Union, 66-36
Lion leaders: Junior QB Cade Shield ran for three touchdowns and passed for 2 TDs in last week’s playoff opener. Shield and Senior RB Alex Viner have combined to score 25 TDs this season. Shield has passed for 898 yards and 10 TDs, and rushed for 406 yards and 10 TDs. Viner has rushed for 783 yards and 15 TDs, including 2 TDs vs. WMU. Junior receiver Cade Patterson has caught 34 passes for 475 yards and 7 TDs.
Talking defense: Will Hotz, a senior linebacker, leads the Lions with 65 tackles. Patterson has five interceptions and 31 tackles. Mathew Hemsted, a sophomore, has 47 tackles.
Scouting Montezuma: The Braves (7-0) are unbeaten and ranked among the top 10 in the state. The Braves are an offensive machine. They have topped 50 points in five of seven games, including in a 62-24 victory against Lone Tree two weeks ago. Junior QB Eddie Burgess has passed for 1,975 yards and 32 TDs, and rushed for 891 yards and 18 TDs.
History lesson: Lone Tree has won two of the last three meetings.
