The Golden Hawks baseball team posted another strong week, going 3-1 and moving to a 9-3 overall record.

Mid-Prairie sits atop the River Valley South standings with a 7-1 record.

Golden Hawks sitting on top of River Valley Conference

The Golden Hawks baseball team posted another strong week, going 3-1 and moving to a 9-3 overall record.

Mid-Prairie sits atop the River Valley South standings with a 7-1 record.

 

June 29

Mid-Prairie 16

West Liberty 6

Mid-Prairie scored in every inning of their June 29 game at West Liberty, cruising to a 16-6, six-inning win.

The Golden Hawks scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second, while the Comets scored twice in the bottom of the first.

Mid-Prairie continued the barrage, scoring one in the third, two in the fourth and three in both the fifth and sixth innings.

West Liberty managed three runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth.

Brad Tornow got the win for Mid-Prairie, striking out six and giving up three hits and an earned run over two and two-thirds innings.

Karson Grout drove in five Golden Hawks runs on three hits, including a double.

Kayden Reinier, Keegan Gingerich and Brayden Gingerich each had two RBIs.

 

June 30

Solon 6

Mid-Prairie 4 (8 innings)

The Golden Hawks fell to Solon 6-4 in eight innings at home on June 30.

Solon was up 4-0 after two innings, but Mid-Prairie tied the game with four-runs bottom half of the third inning.

From there, neither team managed any runs until the Spartans put up two runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Keegan Gingerich pitched six innings for Mid-Prairie, striking out two and giving up four hits and two earned runs.

Monte Slabaugh was tagged with the loss, pitching two innings and giving up two runs.

Chris Miller, Brad Tornow and Keegan Gingerich each drove in a run for Mid-Prairie.

Kayden Reinier had a pair of stolen bases.

 

July 2

Mid-Prairie 9

West Branch 1

On July 2, the Golden Hawks rolled past West Branch 9-1 on the road.

Mid-Prairie scored two runs in the both the first and second innings.

The Bears managed to score a run in the top of the fifth inning.

Brad Tornow struck out 10 for Mid-Prairie, giving up four hits, three walks and a run.

At the plate, Tornow had two hits and a run scored.

Aidan Rath had a pair of hits, two RBIs and a run scored. He also racked up three stolen bases.

 

July 3

Mid-Prairie 7

Wilton 6

The Golden Hawks put together a thrilling come-from-behind 7-6 home win against Wilton on July 3.

Mid-Prairie pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Beavers tied the game in the third.

In the fourth inning, Wilton put up four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Mid-Prairie answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.

In the fifth, both Wilton and Mid-Prairie scored a run, making the score 6-3 Wilton at the end of five.

The Golden Hawks came alive in the bottom of the sixth with four runs, and the Beavers had no answer in the top of the seventh.

Kayden Reinier and Monte Slabaugh split the pitching duties for Mid-Prairie, with Slabaugh earning the win.

Reinier also had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Brad Tornow had two singles, two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
