Stringing together back-to-back wins, the Golden Hawks went on the road and defeated the Tipton Tigers, 2-1 on April 22.

The Tigers struck first in this contest. With under 15 minutes left to go in the first half, junior Miles Christian got past the Mid-Prairie defense and sent the ball into the back of the net.

Mid-Prairie did not let this deficit last long.

Ten minutes later senior Hugo Banuelos scored his first goal of the season to tie the game. It was looking like the score would stay knotted up going into halftime, but the Hawks had different plans.

With only 27 seconds left in the half, senior Dylan Henry smashed the ball into the goal to give his team the lead. This ended up being the winning score with both teams going scoreless in the second half.

This was also Henry’s first goal of the season, and his score propelled the Hawks to victory, improving their record to 6-4. For Tipton this loss drops their record to 5-2.

Mid-Prairie 4, Anamosa 1

Getting back to their winning ways, the Golden Hawks broke a two-game losing streak when they defeated the Anamosa Blue Raiders on April 19.

Mid-Prairie got on the board first in front of their home crowd, scoring a goal to head into halftime with a one-point lead.

Despite the Blue Raiders answering with a goal of their own in the second, Mid-Prairie scored three more goals to put the game out of reach and claim victory.

It was a two-goal night for Mid-Prairie senior Tucker Miller. Miller was also responsible for one assist. Also recording an assist was senior Beau Flynn. Thanks to his two-goal performance Miller is now up to three goals on the year, one shy of the team lead.

Scoring their first goals of the season were sophomore Hudson Ehrenfelt and senior Drake Price.

Golden Hawk goalkeeper Joe Hall only gave up one goal and recorded seven saves. Scoring Anamosa’s lone goal was freshman Eli Breitbach.

Up next for Mid-Prairie (6-4) is a home game against the Regina Regals (5-1) on April 29.
