Highland Huskies score wins against WMU, Holy Trinity, Belle Plaine

The Highland Huskies went 3-2 in another busy week on the diamond, moving to an overall record of 7-6.

 

June 29

Highland 2

WMU 1 (10 innings)

The Huskies earned a 2-1 10-inning home win against Winfield-Mount Union on June 29.

WMU scored a run in the top of the second inning and held their 1-0 lead until Highland tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 10th inning, when Highland scored a walk-off run.

Grace Batcheller earned the win for Highland, pitching all 10 innings. She struck out three and gave up 11 hits.

Dani Laughlin had a pair of singles and two stolen bases for Highland.

Sarah Burton had a triple, a single and scored both Highland runs.

 

June 30

Columbus 6

Highland 1

Highland fell on the road 6-1 at Columbus on June 30.

Columbus scored a run in the first inning, then two in the third.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Huskies scored their lone run, but the Wildcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Jessica Kraus was tagged with the loss, throwing three innings, striking out four, and giving up five hits and three earned runs.

Jenna Sands had a pair of singles and one RBI.

 

July 2

Highland 10

Holy Trinity 0

Highland dominated Holy Trinity Catholic in a 10-0 home win on July 2.

The Huskies scored a run in the first inning and added two in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth to cruise to five-inning victory.

Grace Batcheller went the distance for the Huskies, striking out six and giving up three hits.

Abbi Stransky had a pair of RBIs for the Huskies.

Dani Laughlin had a double, two singles, and RBI and three runs scored.

 

July 3

Highland 5

Belle Plaine 4

The Huskies squeezed by Belle Plain 5-4 in the first game of the July 3 Lisbon Tournament.

The Plainsmen scored a run in the top of the first, and Highland came back with two runs to take a 2-1 lead in the second inning.

Belle Plaine answered with a three-run third inning to retake the lead 4-2.

Highland closed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth, then took the lead for good with a two-run sixth inning.

Jessica Kraus got the win for Highland, striking out three and giving up no hits in two innings of relief.

Dani Laughlin had three singles and an RBI for Highland.

Sarah Burton had three singles and scored two runs.

 

July 3

Lisbon 3

Highland 2

A last at-bat comeback fell a run short for the Huskies in the final game of the Lisbon tournament on July 3.

Lisbon led 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Huskies scored two runs in a comeback attempt.

Jessica Kraus struck out two and gave up five hits in the loss.
