A longer course didn’t slow down Mid-Prairie freshman Danielle Hostetler on Monday.
Hostetler, the top-ranked runner in Iowa Class 2A, won her third consecutive race, capturing the Clear Creek Academy’s Clipper Classic by nearly a minute over teammate Sydney Yoder. She completed the race in 19:45 on a course at the Iowa City Kickers soccer complex that measured out at 250 meters longer than a 5-kilometer race.
Hostetler and Yoder led a strong Mid-Prairie showing that featured the Golden Hawks capturing six of the first nine finishing spots.
“The girls are running strong, really strong,” said head coach Mark Hostetler.
Jamison Stutzman led Mid-Prairie’s boys, finishing runner-up to CCA’s Brandon Barker with a time of 17:38. Adjusted for the longer length, his time would have placed him among the top 10 at state, said assistant coach Aaron Fleming.
