With the regular season winding down, Highland soccer is putting the finishing touches on their best season since 2015 and what better way to celebrate this recent success than with a senior night win.

It was the Huskies vs the Huskies last Friday night when Highland hosted Cedar Valley Christian in a non-conference showdown. Sending the home crowd home happy Highland won the battle of the Huskies, defeating CVC 3-1.

This victory snapped a four-game losing streak and improved Highland’s record to 5-7 which is more wins than their last five seasons combined.

As is senior night tradition Highland celebrating their four seniors: Stella Slaymaker, Remington Fields, Jack Peiffer, and Luke Guseman

Highland took the lead early on thanks to a goal from Jared Diaz, increasing his season total to 12, to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

CVC battled back with a goal of their own in the second half, but Highland scored twice, one from Jose Ramirez and another from Hunter Siebel, to preserve their lead and the win.

As a team Highland had 15 shots on goal with Diaz getting in eight of his own. In addition to scoring a goal Ramirez also notched an assist, his third of the season.

In a postponed matchup the Huskies went on the road to battle the WACO Warriors. In this Saturday conference showdown Highland was unable to break through on offense leading to the Warriors collecting a home victory on May 4.

WACO took the lead with 11 minutes left in the first half. In the second half with six minutes left in the game the Warriors cemented their victory over the Huskies by scoring another goal from a free kick opportunity.
