WELLMAN
The first official meeting of the Lime Creek Livewires 4-H year was held on Sept. 11, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wellman. The club welcomed eight new members, which brought their total club membership to 45. With the additional members we were fortunate to also have a new leader join our club, Sara Stoutner.
The Lime Creek Livewires 4-H club kicked off the 2024 calendar year with a club skating party on Sunday, Jan. 28. This party was held at the Wellman Skating Rink and was open to all members; approximately 20 members and their families attended. Entry costs were covered by the club, as was the pizza party.
On Sunday, Feb. 3 the Livewires held their annual Club Presentation Day. This was held at the Washington County Extension Office where members presented to their parents, peers, and other visitors.
Over 75% of our active members attended this day and gave awesome presentations. Topics ranged from the “History of Softball” to “Sand Dollars and Their Meanings.”
One of the requirements of being a member of the Lime Creek Livewires is that members give a presentation at the club and county level. We feel this experience gives our members a distinct advantage with their communication skills as compared to other youth. Livewires regularly have some of their communication projects selected for the Iowa State Fair, and we expect this year to be no different.
Next up for the Livewires will be fundraising for the Washington County 4-H Lucky Clover Raffle, which will be drawn on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Lebowski’s in Washington. The Lucky Clover Raffle raises money for Washington County 4-H and Extension programs, workshops, camps, scholarships and so much more.
Livewires are also busy prepping for their fair projects.
