Lions held winless in road tournaments

The Lone Tree volleyball team will look for its first win of the season Thursday night, when it hosts Hillcrest Academy in the home opener for the Lions.

The Lions dropped their first six matches last week in a pair of tournaments.

Skylar Smith started her season with a 17-kill week, leading the team.

But the Lions still dropped two matches in the Keota Tournament on August 24 and four matches in the West Branch Tournament on August 29.

August 24:  Keota Tournament

Lone Tree was swept by Keota and lost a heartbreaker to rival Highland, losing by two points in the third set.

Smith, a senior, had 10 kills in the loss to Highland. Kayla Dautremont, a junior, had seven assists and a pair of kills. Kylie Patterson, a junior, added six kills.

After winning the first set by a score of 25-21, the Lions lost the second and third sets to Highland, 25-19 and 15-13.

The Lions began the night with a 25-22, 25-19 loss to host Keota.

Patterson had a match-best six kills, along with a block and an assist. Josie Mullinnix, a senior, had a match-best six aces and a team-high five assists. Smith had three kills and Dautremont added three assists.

August 29:  West Branch Tourney

The Lions dropped matches to Iowa City Regina Catholic, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Don Bosco and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Patterson had a team-high five blocks over the four matches, including two against Don Bosco and Mt. Union. She also had two aces.

Riley Krueger, a sophomore, had a team-high seven kills, including three against Regina.

Smith had two kills against Mt. Union.

Chloe Mills had three aces.

The Lions did not win a set, but did score 12 points in sets against Regina and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Don Bosco, winning for the fourth time in five matches, defeated Lone Tree, 21-8 and 21-6. Jenna Brown led Don Bosco with seven kills and three assists.

The Lions lost a pair of 25-10 sets to Mt. Union. Bradie Buffington, a Mt. Union sophomore, had six kills.
