Lone Tree and Hillcrest looked evenly matched in the first quarter of their game Jan. 14.

The quarter ended in a 6-6 tie when Hillcrest’s Yani Guttierez-Larios tied the game at the end of the quarter by driving between two Lone Tree defenders for a layup.

Lone Tree came out in the second quarter with a heavy press at both ends of the court. The Lions went on a 24-5 second quarter run, to take a 30-11 halftime lead.

Coming out of the locker room after the half, Lone Tree kept up the pressure. Hillcrest did not score in the third quarter, as Lone Tree went on a 12-0 run to end the quarter up 42-11.

With Lone Tree’s starting lineup on the bench in the fourth quarter, Hillcrest outscored the Lions 5-4 to end the game with a 46-16 score.

On Thursday evening, the Lone Tree girls had a 67-53 setback on the road against BGM.

BGM jumped out to a 34-19 halftime lead, but Lone Tree came out strong in the second half but it was not enough to overcome the lead BGM had built.

Through 12 games, senior Holley Johnson is leading the Lions with 158 points, followed by Kasey Chown with 107 points and Josie Mullinnix with 102.
