Skyler Smith delivered quickly on Senior Night at Lone Tree.
Rising above the net early in the Lions’ match against Louisa-Muscatine this past Thursday night, Smith slammed a shot to the other side of the court for a point.
She would go on to pound six other spikes.
But Louisa-Muscatine still won its third consecutive match, sweeping the Lions, 25-23, 25-11, 25-10.
Four Lone Tree seniors, including Smith and front-row teammate Josie Mullinnix, were honored before the match (see photos, Page 5B).
Lone Tree (4-8) had won four of its previous five matches, but could not keep up with the powerful Falcons after a close opening set. Kylee Sanders, a Louisa-Muscatine senior, had a match-high 12 spikes, three aces from the serving line and two blocks.
Mullinnix had a team-high three aces for the Lions and Smith, who leads the team with 22 aces, had two. Combined, the two seniors had 11 kills.
Kayla Dautremont, a junior, led Lone Tree with six assists.
Kylie Patterson, a junior who is tied with Smith for the team lead in spikes with 39, had one spike and one ace.
The Lions are scheduled to host Pekin on Thursday night.
