Seventeen members of the Mid-Prairie Speech Team competed in the River Valley Conference Individual Events Speech Contest at Anamosa High School on Monday, Feb. 19, in 25 events. At RVC Speech Contests, best in center recognition is awarded. Mid-Prairie earned five best in center awards, five second place in center awards, and three 3rd place in center awards.
The students and their events are as follows, with best in center recognition listed:
Haydon Bailey: Division 1 rating in Solo Musical Theatre and Solo Acting; 2nd Place in best center in Solo Musical Theatre. Jacob Carrillo: Division 1 rating in Solo Improvisation, and Division 2 in Solo Acting. Jillian Clark: Division 1 in Solo Improvisation; 1st Place best in center in Solo Improvisation. Tabitha Fisher: Division 2 rating in Interpretive Prose. Harlie Gehling: Division 1 rating in Radio News Announcing and Interpretive Poetry; 1st Place best in center in Interpretive Poetry. River Gehling: Division 1 rating in Interpretive Prose. 1st Place best in center in Interpretive Prose.
Isadora Goode: Division 2 rating in Original Oratory and Expository Address. Jack Greiner: Division 1 rating in Solo Musical Theatre and Solo Improvisation; 2nd Place best in center for Solo Improvisation. Wren Harris: Division 1 rating in Interpretive Prose; 2nd Place best in center in Interpretive Prose. Niah Leaton: Division 1 rating in Reviewing and After Dinner Speaking; 3rd Place best in center in Reviewing, and First place best in center in After Dinner Speaking. Logan McClellen: Division 1 rating in Storytelling and Solo Musical Theatre; 1st Place best in Center for Storytelling, and third place best in center for Solo Musical Theatre.
Grace Puttmann: Division 1 rating in Interpretive Poetry. Daniel Rodgers: Division 1 rating in Poetry and After Dinner Speaking; 2nd Place best in center in Interpretive Poetry, and Second place best in center in After Dinner Speaking. Diego Sanchez: Division 2 rating in Reviewing. Caroline Schrader: Solo Acting; 3rd Place best in center in Solo Acting. Rebecca Westfall: Division 1 rating in Public Address. Samantha Wunderlich: Division 1 rating in Public Address.
The Mid-Prairie Speech Team now has their sights on the upcoming Iowa High School Speech Association's District Individual Events Contest on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Mount Vernon High School. Students earning a Division 1 rating at District Contest will advance to IHSSA State Individual Events Contest on Saturday, March 9 at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School.
