The Riverside City Council unanimously approved a request to host the “Show and Shine” Car Show.
The event will be held from 1-4 p.m. this Sunday, July 12, in front of City Hall.
Event coordinator Russel Rogerson said the show had previously been held annually in town, but needed a new location.
“This is a show that annually occurred at the Travel Mart, (but) Travel Mart became Casey’s, Casey’s doesn’t do that type of stuff,” he said at the meeting. “This club likes coming to Riverside, they usually have a very good turnout.”
He said the event would take several precautions to mitigate risks from COVID-19.
“This is the group that puts on the car show at Coral Ridge mall, they’ve done that for the last three Fridays,” Rogerson said. “They practice social distancing, they give every attendant masks if they want them, they provide every vehicle hand sanitizer, and they have a set protocol that all their vendors follow.”
Council members did not expect the event to be a COVID-19 hazard.
“I think the chamber is genuinely trying to promote our town, and I realize with COVID that’s a little hard,” Councilperson Lois Schneider said. “I think the car people are going to different locations, they should kind of have that down.”
Rogerson estimated a showing of around 30 cars at the event. Visitors can use bathrooms and AC in the River Room of City Hall.
