With a unanimous 4-0 vote Tuesday, Washington County supervisors acknowledged the city of Wellman’s voluntary annexation of a building lot for a Dollar General store in the city.
The land’s former owners are Jeffrey and James Bohr.
The parcel, at the southeast corner of First Avenue and Highway 22, includes “either the continuation or establishment of zoning districts” for the annexed area, the proposal notes.
The new business is expected to be open by mid-fall.
The board also unanimously approved a 28E Agreement for the East Central Iowa Local Workforce Development Area Chief Elected Officials shared liability that involves the officials of Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties.
It is an agreement that dates to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 and involves distribution of grant funds from Iowa’s Workforce Development agency through the creation and operation of a Workforce board for the seven-county area.
Following approval of the agreement, the board approved a formal resolution to create regional service area and for cooperation with the other county governments in delivering services to Iowa residents.
In essence, noted Bob Yoder, the supervisor representative on the board, it is a continuation of an ongoing arrangement.
In other business, the board:
• Modified the employment agreement for Sandra Jara, the new Wahignton County attorney office manager/legal secretary to a starting date of July 28 at $20.12 hourly, rather than Aug. 1.
• Approved hiring Darren Dennler for Buildings and Grounds and the county jail as an on-call employee to help monitor public access at the courthouse and other county facilities, as needed. Pay is $14.27. Dennler is a retired county sheriff’s deputy.
• Approved termination of Brandon Banks, Jamie Detzell, Jase Hammes, Zachary Morrison, Bruce Murphy, Dan Stigers and Randall Tisor, effective June 30, from the Washington County Rescue. It was a formality concerning the new Washington County Ambulance Service that went into operation July 1.
