Top three finish for Ravens at SEISC meet, Rya Scott claims four individual titles

WAYLAND

It was a track and field meet to be sure but if one made the mistake of saying it was a swim meet it would have been easy to see why.

Rain was a constant factor at this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet, pouring down one minute to letting up to a light drizzle the next minute, but the show must go on and for the Hillcrest girls they made the most of their opportunity.

Traveling to Wayland for the second week in a row, the Ravens put together a terrific team performance, capturing 84 points to place 3rd in the north division last Thursday.

Competing in the north with eight other schools, Hillcrest was represented by seven Ravens and this small but mighty team was led by Rya Scott who won gold in four individual events.

In the long jump Scott was the only one to produce a jump over 15 feet, placing first with a jump of 15-09. Teammate Delaney Shaw also showcased her jumping talent, jumping 14-10 to take the runner-up spot.

Scott’s three other gold winning performances came in track events. She raced past all the competition in the 100m (13.19), the 200m (27.56), and the 400m (1:01.50). Her time in the 400m is a new personal best.

When it came to the longer distance running events the Ravens knew they could count on the duo of Marie Yoder and Siena Stanerson.

Yoder, a freshman, and Stanerson, a sophomore, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in both the 1500m and the 3000m. Yoder’s times (5:13 and 11:24) set new PRs in both races while Stanerson’s time (11:44) in the 3000m set a new PR.

Up next for the Ravens is a chance at state when they travel to Sigourney to compete in the 1A State Qualifiers on May 9.
