Trimpe scores six goals in two games as Golden Hawks start 6-0

While Mid-Prairie took plenty of shots in the first half of Friday’s game with Prince of Peace Catholic, none of them could find the goal.

It didn’t take the Golden Hawks long to rectify that in the second half as Owen Trimpe scored two of his three goals during the next eight minutes of a 3-0 Mid-Prairie win.

“We had worked on quick combinations the last couple of days in practice and we were hitting them, but we were hitting it right at the goalkeeper’s chest,” Mid-Prairie coach Pat Cady explained.

“Owen looked really good in the first half, just everything that he was smoking, it was right to the goalkeeper.”

At halftime, the Golden Hawks talked about getting the ball wide to Zues Fugate on the wing, rather than a direct pass up the field to Trimpe.

“Owen was pulling the two center backs like we wanted him to do and we felt like Zeus had the opportunity to take advantage of his guy and once he beat his guy, then that would pull a center  back and then that would free up Owen. And that’s exactly how it played out for us.”

Fugate had assists on Trimpe’s final two goals.

“I felt like we were able to just build better and have our passes more concise,” Fugate said. “That is what we were really lacking in the first half.”

Gunnar Gingerich had the assist on Mid-Prairie’s first goal of the game in the 44th minute.

Mid-Prairie got off 23 shots and put 13 on goal, while the Golden Hawk defense allowed just four shots on goal, and eight attempts total.

“I think Jarrett (Hoffman) and Ethan (Trimpe) did a great job back there again tonight, they’re working well together,” Cady said. “(Jack Pennington) just knows where to be at the right time. And then we brought Beau Flynn in there late, and Beau did extremely well, just like he did when he stepped in when we played Tipton the other night. Defense is really solid, and our holding midfielders are working well.”

Goalkeeper Keaton Graber made four saves in the shutout victory.

Mid-Prairie 6, Columbus 2

Trimpe had another hat trick on Monday as the Golden Hawks moved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-2 win at Columbus. It was his third three-goal game of the season.

The Golden Hawks led 2-1 at halftime and added four more goals in the second half for a decisive victory in their toughest test of the young seaon.

Jack Pennington had a goal and two assists in the win and Ethan Trimpe had a pair of assists as well.

Zues Fugate scored once and Aaron Slabaugh had one assist in the Golden Hawk victory.

Mid-Prairie had no trouble creating scoring chances against the Wildcats, who entered Monday’s contest with a record of 5-1. The Golden Hawks put 14 of their 22 shots on goal.

Mid-Prairie 5, Anamosa 0

Yassin Ahmed and Jack Pennington each scored twice during Mid-Prairie’s 5-0 shutout of winless Anamosa in a road game on Tuesday.

The Golden Hawks put 21 of 38 shots on goal and allowed just total shots in the win. Keaton Graber did not have to make a save in the shutout.

Ryan Jones had a goal and an assist in the win and Pennington had an assist as well. Zues Fugate, Owen Trimpe and Tucker Miller each had an assist in the victory as well.
