Twin sisters Sydney and Jaden Yoder both finished among the top 20 in last Saturday’s Heartland Cross Country Classic in Pella.
Sydney Yoder finished 16trh, completing the course in 19:58, and Jaden was 19th, just three seconds behind. They helped Mid-Prairie to a seventh-place team finish in the girls white division race in an event that drew some of the top Class 3A and 4A teams in the state.
“The across-the-board improvements for the girls were very impressive and show a team moving in the right direction,” said coach Aaron Fleming. “The underclassmen had huge improvements that show they’re developing confidence as they get into the swing of competing at the varsity level.”
Danielle Hostetler, a freshman who won her first two races of the seasons and set a school record in her first race, did not compete.
Mitzi Evans, a junior, and freshmen Abby Fleming and Phoebe Shetler all finished among the top 50.
Thaddeus Shetler, a junior, had a 36th-place finish in the boys race to help the Golden Hawks to a 10th-place team finish.
