With assistance from the Horse & Pony 4-H Club parents, leaders, and the Southeast Iowa Draft Horse & Mule Association, the annual 4-H Horse Driving Clinic will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds. This event will be held in conjunction with the 4-H Pancakes and More Breakfast on the fairgrounds April 22. Youth may register to attend the clinic from 10 a.m. – noon or 1pm-3pm. Youth will be paired with their own hitched draft horse team and an experienced teamster to help train youth. The clinic will include harnessing demonstrations, hitching demonstrations, driving clinic and end with a driving class competition.
This unique opportunity is open to any Washington County 4-H youth enrolled for the 2022-2023 4-H year. Youth do not have to be a Horse & Pony member to participate and learn. Pre-registration required online at https://tinyurl.com/4Hhorsedriving2023
Free to participate. Youth must wear jeans, boots/close-toed shoes and riding helmet. Helmets are available to borrow if needed. Rain date is set for April 29.
