1998
The 2nd annual Nativity Scene show drew more than 450 visitors during its six-day run. Among those who saw the special exhibit were visitors from North Carolina, Maryland and Germany, as well as from throughout Iowa.
The show was arranged by Mike Zahs (who owns most of the collection). Refreshments were donated by Brenda Bean and the Girl Scout Troop she leads.
Santa Claus made a visit to the center December 12. In addition to the Santa appearance, there were craft tables arranged by Sherri Hazen-Hansen, Brenda Bean, Lori Cavin, Heather Schultz and Erin Mann. The Lions Club donated money to purchase the Santa Sacks given to the children.
Incidentally, ACT notes Santa needs a new suit before December. Anyone interested in helping him, call Jane at 319-658-3507.
The Ainsworth Library, housed in the renovated Opera House, received a $978 grant from the Carver Trust to purchase shelving and other necessities. The library receives no funds from the city, county or state, so the grant is a major assist. All workers in the library are volunteers. The grant request was prepared by Jane Mann, Arlene Jones, Neva Emrick, Nadine Brown and Anita Davis.
The library needs more volunteers and those interested should call Jane , 319-658-3507.
The Ainsworth Community Church Youth Group held a Community Night December 20 in which more than 75 people participated. Irene Klein won the door prize donated by Moe and Joe’s Shop.
The Opera House can be rented for $95 plus a $50 refundable deposit. The kitchen and meeting room are available for $40 (also with a refundable $50 deposit). The meeting room also rents for $10 per hour and can seat 200 people.
