Alma M. (Miller) Hershberger, 88, of Kalona, passed from this life on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Fairview Church from 4 – 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Hospice of Washington County. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Alma M. Hershberger was born April 9, 1935, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Paris and Lydia (Briskey) Miller. She was united in marriage to John D. Hershberger May 5, 1957, at the Fairview Mennonite Church. Alma and John owned and operated the Wayside Inn restaurant and Hershberger Trucking, and she cracked eggs for her sister Marylin’s noodle business. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake cookies, cakes and pies for her family and friends every chance she got. Alma loved being a grandma and never missed a birthday.

Survivors include two sons: Ronnie (Cindy) Hershberger of Kalona and Merlin (Brenda) Hershberger of Wellman; daughter-in-law: Jane (Kent) Widmer of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren: Nicole (Matthew) Costello, Michael Hershberger, Blake (Jenni) Hershberger, Kyra (James) Gardiner, Tommy Hershberger, Megan (Jared) Holmes, Taylor Hershberger, Pam (Dan)Vercande, Emily (Brendan) Case, Melissa (Garon) Yoder, and Byran (Courtney) Hershberger; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister: Sally (John) Hershberger of Kalona; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Miller of Kalona and Karen Miller of Iowa City; and one brother-in-law: Derald Bender of Kalona.

Preceding Alma in death were her parents; her husband: John in 2010; her son: Delwyn in 2012; five brothers:  Henry (Ella), Robert, Milton, Owen, and Charles “Chip” Miller; and two sisters: Anna Peiffer and Marilyn Bender.
