Alvin David Miller, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in the Henry County Health Center following a brief illness.
Services were Monday, July 12, in Powell Funeral Home, Wellman, with the Reverend Robert M. Bell officiating. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery.
Born February 19, 1924 in Weatherford, Oklahoma, he was the son of Criss and Ann (Gingerich) Miller. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He married Laura Kuhns December 31, 1944 in Wellman. The couple resided in the Wellman, Washington and Webster City communities before moving to Mt. Pleasant 22 years ago.
Mr. Miller worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a county foreman for 31 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Laura of Mt. Pleasant; four children, Linda Miller of Mount Pleasant, Larry Miller of Dubuque, Gary Miller of Mechanicsville, and Susan Miller of Mount Pleasant; one granddaughter, Kimberly Miller of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his mother, Ann Miller of Keota; one brother, Elmer (Doc) Miller of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ritchie of Cedar Rapids and Dorothy and Bill Karr of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Senior Center and Wellman Volunteer Fire Department.
