• Men’s slo-pitch softball action will return to the Kalona Optimist Ballparks Friday, May 28.
Games will be played each weekend at 7, 8, 9 and 10 pm. with doubleheaders being played for teams scheduled on each night.
The league is currently searching for an eighth team to join their seven-team league. If interested, contact Jerrell Miller at 683-2147.
• The 1999 University of Iowa Hawkeye Basketball Senior’s Farewell Tour will be making a stop at the Keota High School gym on Saturday, May 15 at 7 p.m. The Hawkeye Seniors will be playing in a benefit basketball game against the Keota High School 1989 state championship reunion tour team.
Activities for the evening include a reunion ceremony for the 1989 team at halftime of the game and items being auctioned off throughout the evening such as autographed basketballs and t-shirts. The Hawkeye Seniors will also have a table set up to sell t-shirts and items, while the Keota boys basketball team will be taking orders for the newly-released t-shirts “A New Era - A New Attitude” as well as a new Keota basketball polo golf shirt and jackets.
T-shirts will be raffled off throughout the evening and any one buying a ticket ($5 for adults, $3 for students in advance and $6 for adults and $4 for students at the door) will be eligible to win. There will also be an auction to see who will be the coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes for each quarter. The highest bidder will be able to sit on the bench and coach the Hawkeyes.
Tickets are available in advance at Farmers Savings Bank, Keota Farmers Co-op, Vittetoe, Inc., County Line Mart and The Roost.
• The Grant Wood Chapter of the American Red Cross and The FREEDOM Group are sponsoring a day at the ballpark when the Cedar Rapids Kernels take on the Lansing Lugnuts Saturday, May 29 at 7 p.m.
Individuals attending the game will be eligible to win two airline tickets to any destination in the continental U.S. by buying raffle tickets for $2 each or three for $5. The tickets have been donated by American Travel.
There will also be an opportunity to bid on items during a silent auction.
Tickets are $25 for an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink event at the Pfaff Terrace. Individuals wishing to attend that part of the festivities need to get their tickets now because space is limited.
