The December 9 fire that destroyed the home of Chris and Ruby Kern, 916 9th Street, Kalona, was ruled arson by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Assistant Fire Marshal George Howe said Friday that no charges have been filed. He said the investigation is continuing in conjunction with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Probe continues
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into an alleged theft of funds from the Mid-Prairie School District.
Sheriff Yale Jarvis said the investigation started approximately six weeks ago, following a complaint received by the department.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to provide additional investigative manpower, authorities said.
Washington County Attorney Barbara Emundson said no charges have been filed and that none were “immiment.”
