HILLS

Nursing care facilities are among the most regulated in the country. They must meet myriad state and federal regulations, including having sufficient staff; creating individualized comprehensive care plans; offering appropriate treatment, services, and supervision; and promoting the dignity, respect, and quality of life of each resident.

It’s a difficult task to receive zero deficiencies following a state inspection, and yet Atrium Village, a long term care and senior independent living community in Hills, has accomplished just this in 2024.

A November 7 recertification inspection by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing found “the facility was found to be in substantial compliance” after spending time interviewing, observing, and checking records.

States must inspect their nursing facilities at least once every 15.9 months to evaluate services and renew state licensure according to federal regulations. Of the 400 nursing homes in the state, only about 5% of nursing homes are found to be deficiency-free.
