Mid-Prairie East and West Elementary Schools had a special visitor to start off the month of October. Children’s author, Kristi Bradbury, traveled in to read to each grade level at the elementary schools during her visit to Iowa.
Bradbury currently lives in Los Angeles, California, and works in 7th and 8th grade special education. She is a mother of seven and a grandmother of nine.
Bradbury has a special connection to Iowa and shows this in her new children’s book, “To Iowa in the Back Seat”. In her book, she uses her childhood memories of yearly travel to Iowa from her home in Colorado to tell the story of a road trip from the perspective of the back seat.
Growing up, Bradbury’s family would travel every summer to Donnellson, Iowa, to visit her grandparents. Her story from the back seat tells all about the realities of a long road trip with siblings, which can be lots of fun but not always fair. It also highlights the rewarding visit with family when the destination is finally reached, making such a long time traveling in the car worth it in the end.
Bradbury visited Iowa for one week to read her new book to elementary students at the Mid-Prairie and Central Lee school districts. Mid-Prairie’s District Teacher Librarian, Kaitlyn Dodds, is a relation of Bradbury’s and helped to organize the visit for students. While the author was visiting the state, she was excited to find her book for sale in a Burlington, Iowa, bookstore.
Bradbury’s book can also be found at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and Target. More information about Kristi, her book, and events can be found on her website at https://kristirbradbury.com.
