LONE TREE
The Lone Tree City Council met on Monday, Sept. 9 for their regularly scheduled meeting. Despite the length and turnout for the meeting, not many motions carried and discussions on budgets for Johnson County Sheriff agreements were tabled.
The City of Lone Tree released a proclamation on their “Welcoming Week 2024" in collaboration with Greater Iowa City, Inc. The board announced this welcoming week to “celebrate the spirit of unity that is bringing all neighbors together across Lone Tree”. The week of September 13 through the 22 will be the official dates for the Lone Tree Welcoming Week 2024. Residents and visitors can learn more about what’s happening and opportunities to get involved by visiting Great Iowa City Inc.’s social media.
Resident Katie Hamlett and her daughter proposed a permanent structure, or lemonade stand, in Dougherty Park, after raising over $1,000 when their temporary lemonade stand was robbed. The permanent structure would not only be used for lemonade, but also has the potential to allow for businesses to do “pop-ups”. The board shared concerns over location and safety, ultimately suggesting Hamlett discuss the stand being located in ABC Park.
The board moved to uphold the current livestock ordinance after a few residents expressed interest in having chickens in town. The idea was shut down over lack of funding, resources, and people to monitor the activity or issues.
After a closed session to discuss confidential records, the board adjourned. The Lone Tree City Council will hold their next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7 with a tentative plan to discuss and take action on budgeting for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
