Enjoy an evening of music and dancing in the restored Flynn Barn at Living History Farms this summer. Fiddle and banjo music will fill the fully restored, 4,000 square foot barn evenings beginning at 8 p.m. The Flying Pig Fiddle and Banjo musical group and the Country Gentlemen will host the barn dances. Admission to the barn dance is $5.
The Flying Pig Fiddle and Banjo group plays traditional music and features callers from around the Midwest. Carol Ormand, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, will bring her mix of humor and high energy Saturday, July 31 and Dot Kent from the Chicago Dance Company will call Saturday, October 2.
The five-piece Country Gentlemen group features traditional country music such as waltzes, the two-step, fox trots, and country music from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. The Country Gentlemen will perform Saturday, July 24; Saturday, August 14; and Saturday, October 9.
Tobacco and alcohol are prohibited at the barn dances.
Living History Farms is open May 1 through the third Sunday in October, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is: Adult, $8; Child (4-12), $5; Senior Citizen (60+), $7. Tickets are sold until 4 p.m. at which time there is no further admittance. Grounds and sites close at 5 p.m. For a special events update, call 515-278-2400. Living History Farms is a non-profit, historical, educational foundation located at 2600 NW 111th St. (exit #125 from the combined interstate 35/80), Urbandale, Iowa. Operations and maintenance are dependent upon gate receipts, memberships and contributions.
