Since the 2nd annual Kalona Fall Festival in 1973, admission to the two-day event has been via a button. Each year, the button features something related to the Kalona Fall Festival, Kalona Historical Village or the area’s history.
This year, the 1999 button features an Amish Churn Dash quilt pattern, a reflection of the area’s long Amish and Mennonite quilt heritage. The quilt featured on the button was made between 1900-1910 by Mrs. John Helmuth, a member of the Old Order Amish. The quilt was added to the Kalona Quilt & Textile Museum collection in 1984 and will be part of the display in the new museum (nearing completion) at the Kalona Historical Village.
Buttons purchased prior to the Festival September 24-25, are $3.50. At the gate, they will be $5. Buttons are available at Kalona businesses.
