Calvin (Cal) Marcus Swartzendruber, 87, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Shell Rock, Iowa, Aug. 4, 2024. Cal had been a resident at Shell Rock Senior Living.
Born April 7, 1937, on the family farm in Parnell, he was the son of Omer and Sarah (Brenneman) Swartzendruber. He was a graduate of Iowa Mennonite School, where he excelled in sports. He was a member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. He served in 1W service in Indiana.
Cal took over the management of the family farm upon the passing of his father in 1948. He later did tenant farming and tested milk.
Surviving are three daughters: Tracey Norton of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Sandy (Timothy) Fisher of Urbandale, and Shelley Swartzendruber of Des Moines; three sisters: Miriam Yutzy of Goshen, Indiana, Margaret (Timothy) Ryan of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and Mary Kate Folkmann of Conroy, Iowa; grandchildren: Lucas and Nolan Norton, Taylor and Kaylee Redenius, and Trenton McCaughey; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents; and brothers-in-law: Oliver Yutzy and Edgar Folkmann.
There will be a celebration of life for Cal at West Union Cemetery, Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Dick Swartzendruber officiating. The service will be following by the scattering of Cal’s ashes on the family farm. There will be a gathering at the Swartzendruber Farm Barn, 3345 310th St, Wellman. Sharing of remembrances of Cal’s life will be welcome.
