The Live Animal Christmas Show is a southeast Iowa Christmas tradition that is still going strong after forty-eight years of performances.
The 2022 production will be presented at 10 show times! The following showings are still open to the public: Saturday and Sunday, December 10th and 11th at 10:30 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. Arrive one hour early and walk in for seating. There is a special showing just for Washington County residents on Wednesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. No tickets needed.
The production is a spectacular event filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas. The indoor theatrical production tells the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus Christ and is unique among Christmas events, in that the play is performed inside the church with the use of live animals. A full-size camel comes right down the aisle! Get your picture taken with many of the Christmas animals, including a real camel!
The play features various state-of the-art theater technologies. In addition to full artificial stage lighting, the crowd will be awed by special effects such as fog and live flying angels hovering over the congregation. Last year, thousands of people came to the town of Washington, Iowa to make this event their Christmas tradition.
Members of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church comprise the cast and crew; they spend hundreds of hours to plan, prepare, and perform the play each year. We invite you to attend any or all of the free performances. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
