Carnival features meal, new booths, prizes

The annual Washington Township Elementary School Carnival is Saturday, April 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Mid-Prairie High School gym. Sponsored by the Washington Township Parent Boosters, the event provides an evening of family fun as it raises funds to benefit the school and student programs.

Dinner will be available during the Carnival. In addition to the concession stand, there will be a choice of porkburger or hot dog meal.

A raffle features items donated by local merchants and includes a televison, other electronic items, and grill.

Among other raffle prizes are dinners donated by new restaurants in the Coralville area and stores in the Coral Ridge Mall.

Among the games and booths this year are several new ones, including target shooting with a cork gun, balloon-popping darts, and a jail. Participants may pay a certain number of tickets to have the person of their choice put in jail. The “inmate” either remains imprisoned a length of time, or pays two tickets for early release.

Also new this year is an opportunity to tape Principal Mark Schneider to the wall. Lengths of duct tape may be purchased with tickets for this purpose. The taping will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Special guests include Hills Bank’s Penny Bear and the bee mascot from Old Country Buffet, a restaurant in the Coral Ridge Mall. Both will give balloons and stickers to children.

This year, game prizes will be awarded in the form of specially colored tickets which may be redeemed at the corner prize store. There will be a choice of prizes, including stuffed animals, perpetual motion toys, candy, and inflatable balls and toys. (Prizes were previously awarded at each booth.)
