Carrol L. (Catfish) Sitler, 85, of Iowa City died Sunday, July 11, 1999, in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Des Moines, following a five-week illness.
A memorial service is Friday, July 16, at 2 p.m., in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, with Chaplain Beth Miller officiating. Burial will be in Wellman Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday in Peterseim Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the Memorial Service and following the service until 3:30 p.m.
Born March 28, 1914, in Daytonville, he was the son of Ray and Elsie (Amlong) Sitler. He attended Wellman schools and served in the United States Army from 1941-1945.
He married Alice Wagamon May 10, 1941, in Kalona. He was employed by Semlers, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Cinda Sitler, Olympia, Washington; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Sitler of Des Moines and Mary and Bruce Aubin of Voldosta, Georgia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Galen and Margaret Sitler, Duarte, California and Kenneth and Donna Sitler, Moline, Illinois; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Sitler in February 1998, one sister, Catharine Gingerich, and one granddaughter, Rachel Weppler.
A general memorial fund has been established.
