Chamber elects new officers

Officers were elected Monday, August 30, at the noon meeting of the Kalona Chamber of Commerce.

Officers were elected Monday, August 30, at the noon meeting of the Kalona Chamber of Commerce.

They are Dave Hochstetler, president; Cyndie Koehler, vice-president; Jan Peterseim, secretary; Brenda Herington, treasurer; Jane Schlabaugh and Dave Clearman, directors (three-year terms) and Ken Petrone (one-year). Past-president is Ron Slechta, and Tom Jepson is the representative for the Kalona Development, Inc.

Previous directors were Bill Kinneer and Ray Marner. Continuing board member is Gary Bontrager.

Officers will be installed at the annual banquet Monday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kalona Mennonite Church. the meal will be catered by The Parlor.

State Fair

Joyce Briston of Radcliff won the weekend in Kalona drawing during the Iowa State Fair. Besides overnight lodging at the Pull’r Inn Motel and free admission to the Kalona Fall Festival, she will receive gift certificates from Ellen’s Sewing Center, Kalona Bakery, Stitch ‘N Sew Cottage, Village Shoppe,. Yoder’s Antiques, Woodin Wheel Antiques & Gifts and Reifs; a finch feeder from the Bird’s Nest, lunch for two with mint truffles from Columns & Chocolate; two meals at The Parlor Cafe and a rain gauge from the Weathervane.

During the meeting, Peterseim extended the Chamber’s thanks to merchants for donating to the drawing and the volunteers who made the Kalona booth a success.

Specifically, they are Dave and Mary Yoder, booth managers; Paul Swank and Franklin Hochstetler, van drivers; Gretter Motors of Keota for donating a van to use; Chamber office employees, Schlabaugh & Sons for the booth display shelves and racks; Kalona Bakery for a refrigerator and extra help; JK Creative Woods for the display and extra help, the Kalona United Methodist Church for a cooler, the City of Kalona for transportation and workers, and the numerous volunteer staffers, quilters and demonstrators.

Peterseim stressed, “without all of these people, we could not have done it.”
