Cheryl A. “Cherie” Baldwin, 79, of New Boston, Illinois, passed from this life on Saturday, September 21, 2024, as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Her body will be cremated, and a memorial mass will be held at a later date. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Cherie Ann (Walker) Baldwin was born October 4, 1944, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Wilma (Schmidt) Walker. She graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1962, the first graduating class of the newly formed school district. Cherie attended Mercy College of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa, and was a Registered Nurse, working in San Fransisco for several years before marrying Gary Baldwin on March 9, 1968. The couple returned to Iowa, where she worked as a nurse in the Quad City area for many years; most recently serving as administrator at Mercer County Homecare. Cherie was an AVID Hawkeye fan, a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and enjoyed gardening, going to garage sales, and being outside; especially riding her horses. Gary and Cherie loved to travel and had visited every state.
Survivors include her husband Gary of New Boston, Illinois, her daughter Laura Deemer of Lacona, Iowa, daughter-in-law Danielle Ellis of San Antonio, Texas, seven grandchildren: TJ Deemer, Matt Baldwin, Dylan Deemer, Rachel, Keegan, Meaghan and Patrick Baldwin, two great-grandchildren: Skye and Thomas, and her brother Steve (Carol) Walker of Greensboro, GA.
Preceding Cherie in death were her parents and her son Lt. Col. Robert Baldwin.
