Born February 25, 1927, near Kalona, he was the son of Albert and Maggie (Miller) Miller. He attended Fairview Country School.

Chester “Chet” Miller, 72, of Kalona died Friday, August 6, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a sudden illness.

Services were Monday, August 9, in Sunnyside Conservative Church, Kalona, with the Reverends John King and Floyd Helmuth officiating. Burial was in Sharon Hill Cemetery.

Born February 25, 1927, near Kalona, he was the son of Albert and Maggie (Miller) Miller. He attended Fairview Country School.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Yoder February 29, 1948, in Fairview Church near Kalona. He lived in the Kalona community all his life.

In 1947, Miller founded the Kalona Sales Barn. He worked as a livestock buyer and an auctioneer. He also worked at Koeco Auction Company in Sigourney.

He was an active member of Sunnyside Conservative Church. He was president of the board of Iowa Mennonite Mutual Aid, served on the boards of the Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale, Rosedale Mennonite Mission and Pleasantview Home.

He wrote “Chet Says”, a column for The Kalona News.

Survivors include his wife Sarah of Kalona; two daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel and Wendell Nisly of Kalona; Lois and Rich Rhodes of Dayton, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Lowell and Ginger Miller of Cartersville, Georgia; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Sherri and Todd Thompson of Kalona; twelve grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roy R. Miller, Willis E. Miller, Verton S. and Pearl Miller, all of Kalona, and Albert Jr. and Elnora Miller of Jackson, Kentucky; one sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Irvin Gingerich of Kalona; a sister-in-law, Mamie Miller, also of Kalona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Rodney Miller, and a brother, Joe Miller.

Memorials may be made to Sunnyside Conservative Church and Iowa Mennonite School.
