WYOMING

Lone Tree senior forward Kasey Chown began the new year with a monster performance Monday night.

She scored 20 points, missing a season high by just two points, but the Lions fell on the road at Midland in a nonconference battle, 56-41.

Chown scored a double-double for Lone Tree, but the Lions (4-7) tried to fight off foul trouble as Midland (4-6) used a full-court pressure defense to pull away for the win.

“I thought our girls did some decent things,” Lions head coach Ryan Shelman said.

Chown ranks among the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North, and frequently drew double coverage from Midland when she had the ball.

Rylee Shield, a freshman, and Chloe Mills, a senior, each added four points for Lone Tree.

Midland sophomore forward Anna Bartels scored a game-high 22 points.
