Circus clown delights all ages at Wellman appearances

Excitement levels rose in Wellman at the sight of a circus clown on August 11.  The clown informed and entertained groups young and old in advance of the big top circus coming to town later in the month.

“They play 234 different cities and towns.  So, they’re in a different town every single day.  In fact, right now they’re in Ohio, and then they’ll be coming back through Illinois, and then Iowa, then Kansas, then Oklahoma.  And then we’ll finish in Texas.  We’ll be on the road for eight months, 21,000 miles, and we get to visit 17 different states,” Skeeter the clown told the children gathered at Wellman-Scofield Library.

During the 20-minute performance, Skeeter showed the kids how to balance a peacock feather on their fingertip, played flutes and recorders, and twisted a few balloon animals before moving on to her next stop.

At Sunrise Daycare, the young children listened with rapt attention as Skeeter talked about circus life and astonished them with a magical coloring book, whose pages went from full color to blank thanks to the children’s’ “thinkology.”

The crowd at Parkview Manor was privy to jokes only an older generation would understand.  Skeeter played her slide whistle and made her audience laugh at the memory of the sound effects in their favorite cartoon shows.

The Culpepper & Merriweather Great Combined Circus will perform in Wellman on Sunday, August 21 at the North Park Ballfields.  Advance tickets are available in town at Freeman Foods, Wellman City Hall, Hills Bank, and Federation Bank.  Tickets will also be available at the box office starting one hour before the 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. shows.
