On Sept. 7, Casey Peck, General Manager of Kalona Cooperative Technology Company (KCTC); Ethan Pitt, Iowa Area Development Group Ripple Effect Program Director; and Eric Benson, Aureon Account Manager, presented a check to Ryan Schlabaugh, Kalona City Administrator in the amount of $5,000. The City of Kalona received the grant money from Aureon for the city’s student-built housing project.
High school students were able to collaborate with local contractors and vendors to rehabilitate an existing home located at 721 6th Street in Kalona, Iowa. The students took a 100- year-old home and transformed it into modern livable accommodations. The house will be on the market and for sale to qualified buyers.
The City of Kalona plans to continue the student-built housing project and rehabilitate, tear down, or build new homes located in Kalona.
