Wellman and rural area residents wanting a voice in the future direction of the town, may take part in the creation of a comprehensive plan for the city. Wellman has retained the services of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) to help the citizens’ planning committee draft a 20-year plan for the city.
A Town Meeting is set for November 10 at 7 p.m. in the city hall to obtain public input.
The committee first met October 6 and now plans to meet monthly for the next year to work on the plan. Residents may attend the meetings to provide input.
Chad Sands, planner with ECICOG, said, “By receiving board public participation, the document will represent the needs and desires of the people in and around Wellman”
The completed plan will give the city a means to ensure that future development occurs in a manner consistent with locally defined values, care of the environment and paced in a way to not outstrip Wellman’s ability to provide proper services.
Residents interested in the planning process should contact the city hall at 319-646-2154 or Sands at 319-365-9941.
ECICOG was contacted recently by several communities in its six-county region (including Johnson and Washington counties) for assistance with planning issues.
