A special election for two amendments to the Iowa constitution goes to all voters June 29. In addition, local voters will vote for a 50 cents surcharge to help fund E911 in Washington County. The surcharge. on telephone bills, if approved will raise the total charge to $l.50. It is to be collected for only two years.
The constitutional issues deal with requiring the governor and legislature to not expend more than 99 percent of the state’s general fund. In addition, only 95 percent of new revenues may be included in general fund expenditures.
The second issue requires approval by 60 percent of the entire legislature to increase state revenues through state corporate and personal income tax or state sales and use taxes or to establish a new state tax.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
Kalona Precinct (City of Kalona and English River Township) vote in the Kalona Community Center.
Wellman Precinct (City of Wellman and Lime Creek Township) vote in the Wellman Municipal Building.
Highland Precinct (Highland Township and Jackson Township) vote at Highland High School and Riverside Precinct (City of Riverside and Iowa Township) vote at the Riverside Fire Station.
South West Chester Precinct (City of West Chester and Franklin Township) vote at the West Chester City Hall, using the south entrance.
The North West Chester Precinct (Cedar Township, Dutch Creek Township and Seventy-Six Township) also vote in the West Chester City Hall, but use the north entrance.
