Washington County had a local tax revenue of $17,165,874 for the year ending June 30, 1998 which includes $1,333,064 in state tax credits. The figures are in the audit report recently released by Auditor of the State Richard Johnson.
The county sent $12,541,128 of local tax revenues to the townships, school districts, cities and other county taxing bodies.
The county kept $4,624,746 of the tax revenues to finance county operations, a two percent decrease from the previous year. Other revenues included $3,158,592 from the state, $1,230,419 from the federal government, including Medicare and Medicaid of $278,842, and $336,028 in interest on investments.
Expenditures for the county operations totaled $10,491,088, a less than one percent increase from the previous year. Expenditures included $3,666,520 for roads and transportation, $1,591,256 for public safety and $l,510,685 for mental health.
