The Iowa Department of Transportation has approved a change in the speed zones on the extension of Iowa Highway 1 in Washington. The area, in the south part of the City of Washington, lowers speed from 45 mph to 35 mph for a 1,200 foot segment and from 55 mph to 45 mph for an another 1,100 foot segment.
The original limits were set in November, 1985, and the changes were recommended after a study of the area showed increased traffic on the segment.
The study was reviewed and approved by the Office of Traffic Engineering, the Southeast Iowa Transportation Center and the city.
The change takes effect November 19.
