Ropp opens collegiate wrestling career
Mid-Prairie graduate Heath Ropp is a member of the Wartburg College wrestling team. Ropp is listed to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Knights.
Wartburg opened the 1999-2000 season last Saturday at the Golden Eagle Open at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point, however Ropp did not compete.
Yeggy returns to the Kirkwood lineup
Highland graduate Michelle Yeggy returns to the lineup of the NJCAA Division II national tournament qualifier Kirkwood Eagles for the 1999-2000 womens basketball season. Yeggy, a 5’7” sophomore, is expected to play off of the bench, giving the Eagles a long range shooting threat.
Knepp, Swartzendruber help Hesston to the national tournament
For the fourth year in a row, the Hesston College volleyball team qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national tournament.
Team leaders include Rachel Swartzendruber, a 6’ middle blocker from Wellman, who leads the team with an average of 1.2 blocks per game; and Jina Knepp, a 5’5”digger and setter from Kalona.
Wilson to choose between Creighton and Drake
IMS senior Jessica Wilson has stated that she has narrowed her college choices to Drake University in Des Moines and Creighton University in Omaha.
While Wilson said that she would have a better chance of playing right away at Drake, she was having a difficult time choosing between the two schools. Both offer an excellent pharmacy program, Wilson’s anticipated major in college and have offered her an athletic scholarship.
Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club tryouts this weekend
Tryouts for the Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the North Dodge Athletic Club in Iowa City and Sunday, Nov. 21 at Scanlon Gymnasium in Iowa City.
Girls 13 and under will try out from 12:30-3:00 on Saturday and girls 13-16 are scheduled for 4:30-7:00. Girls 16-18 can try out from 1:00-4:00 on Sunday. The tryout fee is $13.00 and a parent’s signature is required.
