Krantz and Harland honored on 1999 All-State softball team

Mid-Prairie softball players Jamie Krantz and Pam Harland were selected to the 1999 IGHSAU All-State softball team. Krantz, a junior infielder, was named to the third-team while Harland, a senior catcher, was selected for the fourth-team.

Krantz finished the year with a .355 batting average, 35 RBIs, and a .964 fielding percentage. Harland hit .402 with 47 stolen bases and a .989 fielding percentage.

Honorees were selected from the nominations of the high school softball coaches. Both Krantz and Harland were honored on the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference all-loop softball team earlier in the year.

Kalona Standard tops of Kalona Golf Men’s League

The Kalona Standard team of Jim Berg, Greg Harland, Kevin Johnson, and Steve Yotty finished first for the year in the men’s golf league at Kalona Golf Course.

After leading the standing for most of the summer, Kalona Standard finished with 39.5 points. Supershine jumped from fifth to second in the final week, tied with Yoder Tax at 29.5, dropping Yotty’s to fourth with 29.5 points. Farmers Savings Bank finishes fifth with 27.5 points.

Shawn Hedlund and Dean Miller both shot a low gross round of 35 for nine holes and John Gent had low net with 28.

John Bates recorded the year’s low net of 32 on July 7 and Dale Sayre had the year’s low net of 25.

The complete league standings as of Aug. 25 are:

(1) Kalona Standard, 39.5; (2)(tie) Yoder Tax, 29.5; Supershine, 29.5; (4) Yotty’s, 28.5; (5) Farmers Savings Bank, 27.5; (6) Razors Edge, 25.0; (7) Fin & Feather, 24.5; (8)(tie) Farmer’s Supply, 23.0; Kalona Truck & Tractor, 23.0; (10) Agri King, 22.5; (11) Hills Bank, 21.0; (12) Lone Tree, 20.5; (13)(tie) Kalona Builders, 19.0; Sodbusters, 19.0; (15) Hochstedler Insurance, 17.0; (16) Hard Luck, 15.0.

Local top-10 finishes at West Liberty

Area drivers had a good showing in both the late model and modified divisions at West Liberty Raceway Saturday night.

After working through a big wreck on the first lap of the late model feature, Kurt Stewart of Ainsworth, Ron Boyse of Kalona, and Rusty Zook of Riverside all posted top-10 finishes. Stewart came home second behind feature winner Dave Eckrich of Coralville. Boyse took fifth while Zook finished ninth.

Riverside’s Terry Walker bounced back from last week’s engine trouble for a podium finish in the modified feature. Walker came home in third after Robbie Verbeeck of Annawan, IL took his third straight modified feature win. Lone Tree’s Larry Herring finished eighth in the event.

Mid-Prairie announces athletic event ticket prices

Ticket prices for the Mid-Prairie varsity athletic events for the 1999-2000 school year will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.

Punch passes for 10 events may be purchased for adults at $35.00 and students at $25.00. Season passes which included admission for a family to all events during that season can be purchased for $85.00. Student year passes for all events held in the 1999-2000 school year can be purchased for $40.00.

Prices may change for tournaments and non-varsity events. The ticket prices were changed to stay in line with the schools participating in district football.

Stump Concrete continues to lead the standings for the Wellman Golf League. League standings after play on Aug. 24 are:
