Born March 11, 1924 near Kalona, he was the son of Eli S. and Esther (Brenneman) Yoder. He attended Lincoln #6 and Liberty #3 rural schools.

Duane E. Yoder, 75, of Kalona, died Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Memorial Services were Sunday, November 28, in Kalona Mennonite Church with the Reverends Scott Swartzendruber and Mick Murray officiating. Burial was in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona.

Born March 11, 1924 near Kalona, he was the son of Eli S. and Esther (Brenneman) Yoder. He attended Lincoln #6 and Liberty #3 rural schools.

He was united in marriage to Ellen L. Miller October 14, 1944 in East Union Mennonite Church near Kalona. The couple farmed in the Kalona area and in 1954 they opened a feed store and trucking business. They owned and operated the Kalonial Townhouse restaurant in Kalona from 1968-1974. In 1975, they opened Ellen’s Sewing Center and Auction House and Flea Market in the B4 Building in Kalona.

Mr. Yoder was a charter member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Kalona Optimist Club, where he was a Past President. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his 1934 Ford truck.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; seven children and their spouses, LaVerta Eberly of Kalona; Jerry and Liz Yoder of Bridgewater, Virginia; Susan and Firman Gingerich and Jane and Ivan Borntrager of Goshen, Indiana; Miller D. Yoder of Wilton, Wisconsin; Verle and Helen Yoder of Irvine, California; and Colette and Bill Cortum of Kalona; fifteen grandchildren, Chad, Corey and Peter Eberly; Jeremy and Adam Yoder; Amy and Fred Gingerich; Clint and Emily Borntrager; Sarah, Andrea and Eli Yoder; and Kevin, Sean and Ryan Cortum; three great-grandchildren, Cobi, McKenzie and Emma Eberly; three brothers and the sisters-in-law, Marvin and Lois Yoder, Mesa, Arizona; Wilbur and Betty Yoder, Sarasota, Florida; and Raymond and Donis Yoder, Ft. Worth, Texas; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Eva Brenneman and Luella Yoder, both of Kalona, and Verna and Delmar Gingerich of Gallopolis, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Velma Yoder of Kalona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons-in-law, John Eberly and Kirk Chambers, and three brothers, Ivan Yoder, Lyle Yoder and Calvin Yoder.

Memorials may be made to Kalona Mennonite Church and Pleasantview Home.
