WASHINGTON
Construction began November 2023 for a new grocery, bakery, and coffee shop just north of Washington on Hwy 1. Although delays have pushed its anticipated opening date back until perhaps May or June, from the outside, the large new structure appears to be mostly completed.
“It looks like we’re getting close, but there’s a lot of inside work [to do] before we’re actually going to be ready to open up,” owner Mervin Miller said.
Dutch Market is “basically going to be like a general store,” Miller said. “We’re going to have an in-house bakery and we will have an in-house coffee shop, and we will have a drive-thru window. We will have a deli where we have over 60 meats and cheeses, cut to order. And then just a lot of groceries and some of the old-fashioned foods.”
The store, which will encompass over 9,000 sq. ft., won’t be Miller’s first.
“We’ve actually owned a shop like this for 20 years in Indiana, and then we relocated,” he said. “We just wanted to get back into it.”
