Edith M. Stransky, 93, of Wayland, formerly of Kalona, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, at Parkview Home in Wayland. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10 a.m., at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. The family will greet friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church, the Parkview Home, and Hospice of Washington County.
Edith Mae (Britton) Stransky was born on the Britton homestead northwest of Kalona on Jan. 16, 1932, the daughter of William Scott and Rose (Pitlick) Britton. Later, two brothers were born into the family: Dale (Ann) Britton and Gerald (Patsy) Britton. She attended Snake Hollow Rural School and graduated from Kalona High School.
As a young girl, Edith developed a love for farming. On Jan. 1, 1957, she was united in marriage to Allan Stransky. After her marriage, she began working for Duwa Furs but remained involved in the family's farming operation at home. She enjoyed working with the animals, especially their beef cows and her herd of sheep.
Edith was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and spent countless hours in the church kitchen helping with meals. After Allan passed, she became part of the adult Sunday school class and always looked forward to the good discussions they had.
Survivors include her son: Terry Stranksy of Wellman; granddaughter: Abby (Michael) Harland of Wellman; one brother,: Dale (Ann) Britton of Kalona; four nephews; and one niece.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents; her husband: Allan; and her son: Dennis.
