The Mid-Prairie eighth grade girls basketball team split in two games against Iowa City Northwest Junior High last week in Kalona. A balanced scoring attack, led by Tarrah Berg’s 12 points, enabled the Lady Golden Hawks to post a 36-27 victory over the Vikings. Allison Hartzler and Kyra Hersberger each chipped in eight points apiece as Jesse Kleinschmidt contributed six points for the Gold team. Strong man-to-man defense was the difference as the Hawks frustrated Northwest all night long.
Northwest came back to beat the Hawks’ Platinum team 36-15, despite Renee Schrok’s six points and Melissa Stumpf’s five. Coach Eric Thornton reported that Northwest proved to be quicker to the ball, both offensively and defensively, spelling the difference in the contest.
