Funeral services for Elmer A. Helmuth, 78, of Kalona, were held Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at the Elson Miller residence, Kalona. Burial followed at the North Gingerich Cemetery. Elmer passed away peacefully at his home following an apparent heart attack on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021.
Elmer A. Helmuth was born Oct. 8, 1943, in rural Kalona, the son of Andy C. and Fannie (Yoder) Helmuth. He was a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church until his death. On Oct. 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Ida Hochstedler.
Survivors include his wife: Ida of Kalona; six children: Paul (Carol) Helmuth of Milford, Indiana, Eileen (Arlen) Mullet of Rochester, Indiana, Marilyn (Lynn) Borntrager and Mark (Kathryn) Helmuth both of Kalona, Ruth (Nathan) Yoder of Little Suamico, Wisconsin, and Nona (Toby) Miller of Kalona; 32 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother: Leon Helmuth of Windsor, Missouri; five sisters: Susie (Jake) Ropp, Verna (Wilbur) Ropp, Mary Jane (Norman) Ropp all of Kalona, Dorothy (Cecil) Ropp of Ava, Illinois, and Ruth Anna (Mahlon) Mast of Kalona.
Preceding Elmer in death were his parents; one sister-in-law: Mary Helmuth; two grandchildren: Ray Evan Yoder and Christian Miller.
