Born near Frytown in Johnson County, she was the daughter of Lewis and Ida (Miller) Gingerich. She moved with her family to Kalona at an early age. She graduated from Kalona High School and attended Brown’s Business College in Iowa City.

Evelyn Baumgartner, 82, of Iowa City died Saturday, September 25, 1999 in Oaknoll Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.

Services were Tuesday, September 28, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City, with the Reverends Timothy Zimmerman and Jonathan Offt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Born near Frytown in Johnson County, she was the daughter of Lewis and Ida (Miller) Gingerich. She moved with her family to Kalona at an early age. She graduated from Kalona High School and attended Brown’s Business College in Iowa City.

She married Albert Baumgartner September 10, 1940. They lived in Iowa City where she worked as a clerk for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric for 30 years. She moved to Oaknoll in 1988.

Mrs. Baumgartner was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Our Redeemer Mission Guild and was past president of Golden Hawks Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.

Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Luella and Clarence Linebaugh of Dayton, Ohio and Pauline and Donald Snider of Kalona, several neices and nephews.

Her husband, one brother, Wilson Gingerich, one sister, Viola Swartzendruber, and one step-sister, Gertrude Bender, preceded her in death.
